Bambu labs

Origins of L1

With every purchase of a Bambu Lab printer, a random accessory kit is included, allowing users to create a functional product straight away using models from MakerWorld once their printer is set up.

The LED lamp kit was included with our first Bambu Lab printer purchase, but none of the existing MakerWorld designs matched our aesthetic, so we decided to create our own. The concept behind the lamp was centred around angularity, while also maintaining excellent printability by minimising steep overhangs.

Rather than beginning with traditional sketches, we took a more experimental approach by moving directly into CAD modelling. We explored a range of 2D sketches and 3D forms within defined size parameters and angular constraints, refining the design through iteration and form exploration.

First Version

The first version comprised of only 3D printed parts for the design.

Initial the concept was for it to be modular in the fact that it could be oriented multiple different ways.

But after some user testing, we found that the lamp was far too light and unstable.

To solve this a concrete base was conceptualised, adding quality weight and feel to the design
